The Corridor Problem
نویسنده
چکیده
Consider a corridor which connects a continuum of residential locations to the CBD (central business district) and which is subject to flow congestion. All (identical) individuals travel along the corridor from home to work in the morning rush hour and have the same work start time. Each individual decides when to depart from home so as to minimize the sum of travel time costs, time early costs, and toll costs (when applicable). This paper investigates the pattern of traffic flow over the morning rush hour and the social optimum, and considers the implications for land use and road cost-benefit analysis. JEL code: R1, R4

Comparison of the Economic Profitability of a Conventional Freight-Dedicated Railway Corridor and a Heavy Load Freight Corridor
By using mathematical models, this paper will compare the economic profitability of a heavy load freight corridor (30 t per axle) with a conventional freight-dedicated railway corridor (22.5 t per axle). This comparison concerns the construction and operation of a new, single-track of normal gauge, exclusively for freight traffic, and takes into account various demand values of freight volume (...
متن کاملComplexity of the minimum-length corridor problem
We study the Minimum-Length Corridor (MLC) problem. Given a rectangular boundary partitioned into rectilinear polygons, the objective is to find a corridor of least total length. A corridor is a set of line segments each of which must lie along the line segments that form the rectangular boundary and/or the boundary of the rectilinear polygons. The corridor is a tree, and must include at least ...
متن کاملPopulation Heuristics for the Corridor Allocation Problem
The corridor allocation problem is one of assigning a given set of facilities in two rows along a straight corridor so as to minimize a weighted sum of the distances between every pair of facilities. This problem has practical applications in arrangements of rooms in offices and in hospitals. The problem is NP-hard. In this paper, we present two population based metaheuristic implementations fo...
متن کاملThe Steiner Multigraph Problem: Wildlife Corridor Design for Multiple Species
The conservation of wildlife corridors between existing habitat preserves is important for combating the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation facing species of concern. We introduce the Steiner Multigraph Problem to model the problem of minimum-cost wildlife corridor design for multiple species with different landscape requirements. This problem can also model other analogous settings in w...
متن کاملA Dynamic Model for Evaluating the Utility of Railway Transit Corridors; a Case study of Bandar Abbas-Sarakhs Corridor
Currently, road transportation is the main mode of freight transit in Iran and about 90% of freight transit is done through this mode of transportation which is not in line with the transportation policies that based on them 70% of the freight transit should be done through road transportation and 30% of the freight transit should be done through rail transportation. However, Iran's railway net...
متن کاملWidest-corridor Problems
A k-dense corridor through a finite set, S, of n points in the plane is the open region of the plane that is bounded by two parallel lines that intersect the convex hull of S and such that the region contains k points of S. The problem of finding a widest k-dense corridor arises in robot motion-planning. In this paper, efficient solutions are presented for several versions of this problem. Resu...
